Hi Everyone on the other side of the world! The Vegan Society of Ireland is just getting underway and some people are interested in veganising Guinness, the famous Irish drink. At the moment, the bladders of fishes are used in the production process, which means that, technically, Guinness is not vegetarian either. I say technically because there is no animal products left in the finished product. Someone mentioned that Guinness is made in an entirely vegan way in both NZ and Australia. Does anyone have any info on this? Moreover, does this qualify as a "single issue" campaign? best wishes Roger.

Hi Roger,
I don't drink (being 13), but I think I heard people on veganzchat saying it was vegan.
As for it being a 'single-issue' campaign, it focuses on veganism, which covers all issues of animal exploitation. Plus more vegan options can only be a good thing. As long as they don't want 'happy fish' bladder to be used instead, then I don't see the problem.

-- I just could not stand the idea of eating meat - I really do think that it has made me calmer.... People's general awareness is getting much better, even down to buying a pint of milk: the fact that the calves are actually killed so that the milk doesn't go to them but to us cannot really be right, and if you have seen a cow in a state of extreme distress because it cannot understand why its calf isn't by, it can make you think a lot. ~Kate Bush

Hi Roger, do you want me to do a bit of research on this and contact NZ brewery companies? I am not really a drinker at all (ewwwwyuk - beer) and also because I know that most wines (except Wrights Wines) are not vegan as most use the old milk/fish process method, but would be happy to look into for you.
